60th Annual Central Washington Artists’ Exhibition
November 6 - December 5, 2015

NewsCelebrating its 60th year at the Larson Gallery, the Central Washington Artists’ Exhibition showcases the most current and progressive work being produced in the region.  Juror is Greg Kucera, owner of Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle. $3,000 in awards will be offered. A reception will be held at the Larson Gallery on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM.  The reception is free and open to the public.  The exhibit will continue through December 5, 2015.

For the 60th year, we received 282 entries from 113 artists.  This year’s juror, Greg Kucera, owner of the well-known Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle, selected 66 works to be exhibited. 54 artists from Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Kittitas, Walla Walla, and Yakima counties will be showing their work.  In his artist statement, Kucera states “There was a pleasing level of well-made works that restores my confidence in artists who are getting their hands dirty to make this work.”

The Central Washington Artists’ Exhibition began in 1955 under gallery director Gaylen Hansen. The first exhibition, Artists of the Yakima Valley, was limited to artists from Yakima County.  By 1957 the exhibition had expanded to include artists from Ellensburg, and in January 1958, gallery director Edward Haines suggested that prizes might be offered and the show be extended to include artists from the Tri-City area.

In April 1958 it was suggested by board member Pat Graham the artists be included from Richland to Wenatchee. At this same meeting, the name was changed to the Central Washington Artists’ exhibit.  The first prizes were established for this exhibition, which included $25 for Best in Show, $15 for 2nd, and $10 for third.
